Testi is a manufacturer of bicycles and mopeds founded in Bologna by Carlo Testi, which established itself in the 1950s and 1960s as a major player in the Italian light two-wheeler market. The company stands out for the particular care it takes with the presentation and finish of its machines. Well-built frames, sleek lines and an eye for detail that reflected the high standards of a manufacturer committed to its reputation. At the time, Bologna was a city buzzing with a passion for machinery, the birthplace of Ducati, Minarelli, Morini and dozens of other manufacturers that made Emilia-Romagna the world capital of sports motorcycling.

Minarelli is precisely one of these Bolognese gems. Founded in 1951 by Vittorio Minarelli, the company specialises in the production of high-quality two-stroke engines, intended for both moped manufacturers and competitors. The Grand Prix engine is the centrepiece of this range, a 50cc power unit designed for performance, whose name openly declares its sporting ambitions. Lightweight, powerful for its displacement and meticulously built, it was then one of the most sought-after engines by manufacturers seeking to offer a machine that stood out from the crowd.

1961 was a fine year for this partnership: Testi was on the rise, whilst Minarelli was refining its engines with the rigour of an already established firm. A model from this era bearing both Bolognese signatures is now a considerable rarity.
