The Sherpa T is the machine that invented modern trials. Born from the vision of Sammy Miller, a brilliant Irish rider who approached Francisco Bultó in 1964 with a clear idea in mind, it completely redefined what a trials bike should be: light, manoeuvrable, equipped with a smooth and controllable engine, capable of tackling obstacles that no one had dared to attempt before. When Sammy Miller achieved his first successes on the Sherpa T, the world of trials realised that everything had changed.
The 49 model represents a significant turning point in the history of the Sherpa T. Once the effectiveness of the original chassis and five-speed engine had been recognised, Bultaco began working on improving other aspects, such as its image, which had been somewhat neglected until then. It is also worth noting that this is the last model to feature the Sammy Miller sticker on its sides.
This bike marked the definitive take-off in Sherpa T sales, creating a genuine popular craze for trail riding. For many, it is perhaps the finest version in the series.
The 1968 Sherpa T is not merely a collector’s bike. It is a historical artefact in the truest sense of the word, a machine that changed the course of a sporting discipline and left a lasting mark on the history of Bultaco, Spain, and the global motorcycling world.
