While the Sherpa T paved the way at Bultaco, the Cota 247 was an immediate response. Launched by Montesa in 1968, it is proof that Barcelona was home not to one, but two manufacturers capable of revolutionising a discipline. The Cota, whose name would become synonymous with trial riding worldwide, was the brainchild of engineer Leopoldo Milà, who designed a machine of remarkable consistency, tailored from start to finish to the demands of technical off-road riding.
Its 247cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine is a supple and controllable powerplant, possessing a character quite distinct from that of the Sherpa T: two different philosophies, two temperaments, two approaches to tackling obstacles. For years, this duality fuelled a sporting and commercial rivalry that raised the standards of the discipline and made Spain the world capital of trials.
1968 was the very first year of production for the Cota 247; a model from this year is therefore a witness to its birth, an object that embodies the origins of a lineage that has continued unbroken to this day.
Both exceptionally rare and steeped in history, this machine is one of the most sought-after items on the Spanish vintage motorcycle market. An exceptional opportunity.
