The P50 was born from a radical idea: to design the most compact and lightweight moped possible, by integrating the engine, transmission and rear wheel into a single, self-contained unit. The result is a machine of astonishing ingenuity: its 49cc four-stroke engine, two-speed gearbox and rear wheel form a single unit that articulates directly onto the frame – a technical solution patented by Honda, unique in the history of mopeds, which eliminates any secondary transmission and reduces the number of parts to an absolute minimum.

The P50 is lightweight, weighing less than 30 kilograms, manoeuvrable, quiet and economical. It was aimed at an urban clientele seeking maximum practicality in 1960s Japan, a country rapidly becoming motorised. Its design was strikingly modern for the time, with clean lines, a wraparound body and meticulous finishes, reflecting the ambition of a Honda company then in the midst of conquering the world.
