1959 was a particularly significant year for Montesa. Francisco Bultó had left the company the previous year to found Bultaco, a painful split that deprived Montesa of one of its most creative minds and simultaneously sparked a Barcelona-based rivalry that would energise the entire Spanish motorbike industry for two decades. Against this backdrop of transition, the Brio 110 was one of the last machines to emerge from the company’s formative years, built by a firm in the midst of redefining its priorities.

Its 110cc two-stroke engine represented the natural evolution of the Brio 91, with increased displacement to meet the expectations of a clientele beginning to demand more from their machines. More powerful, more responsive, and capable of tackling Spain’s secondary roads and their sometimes steep gradients with ease, the 110cc engine gives the Brio a versatility and vigour that clearly set it apart from its predecessors. A mature mechanical design, benefiting from all the experience Montesa has accumulated since the first Brio: reliable, robust, assembled with the care of a company that never compromises on quality, even in turbulent times.

The design of the Brio 110 reflects the most refined aspects of late 1950s Barcelona aesthetics: balanced lines, meticulous finishes and an overall coherence that testifies to a manufacturer still fully committed to its road-going heritage before off-road competition definitively took over.
