Whereas the famous 65cc model was designed for the masses and for practical use, the Gardellino targets a different, more discerning clientele, one more attuned to elegance and refinement. Its styling is of a rare beauty for a two-wheeler of this engine size: flowing lines, a wraparound body, and meticulous finishes that are more reminiscent of a luxury scooter than an ordinary moped. A machine designed to charm as much as to transport.

Its 73 cm³ single-cylinder two-stroke engine – a slightly more powerful version of the standard 65 – is a lively and spirited unit, equipped with a three-speed gearbox and a more assertive character than that of its popular cousin. Lightweight and agile, the machine offers performance above the category average, wrapped in a design unlike anything else on the Spanish market at the time.

Spanish production of the Gardellino by Motorhispania, owned by Oscar Ravà and manufacturing Moto Guzzi under licence since 1948, was significantly more limited than that of the popular 65. Aimed at a wealthy and discerning clientele, it never achieved the sales volumes of its utilitarian big sister, making it today one of the rarest models in the entire Hispania range.

Serial numbers corresponding to the first series produced (1960). A Gardellino Hispania from this era is therefore doubly precious: rare in its Italian version, and extremely rare in its Spanish version.
