The 50-S version represents the sporty evolution of the Motobic range in its final years. Twenty years after the pioneering Type A, Lorenzo Zabala’s company had accumulated considerable experience in the manufacture of lightweight two-wheelers, a technical maturity reflected in every detail of this machine. The 50cc two-stroke engine is a refined piece of engineering, livelier and more spirited than the utility versions that preceded it, tailored for a Spanish youth that is beginning to demand pleasure as much as reliability from its two-wheelers.
The designation ‘S’, for Sport, is no mere marketing gimmick. It denotes a machine that truly stands out in the range, equipped with specific features and a polished finish that reflects Motobic’s ambition to remain competitive in the face of increasingly aggressive national and international competition. In early 1970s Spain, the moped market was a battleground where every manufacturer had to prove its worth.
1971 was a significant year for Motobic. The company knew its days in two-wheeler manufacturing were numbered; a shift towards industrial engines was already being considered, and the 50-S was one of the last machines to emerge from the Éibar workshops before the motorcycle line was permanently shut down in 1972.
