GAC is a company based in Éibar whose origins date back to the mid-19th century, at the heart of the Basque metalworking tradition. Having survived the destruction of the Civil War, it relaunched itself in the manufacture of bicycles before signing a landmark agreement in 1951 with the French firm Motobécane to produce the famous Mobylette under licence for the Iberian market. A collaboration that would last over thirty years and make GAC one of the key players in the Spanish two-wheeler industry.
Far removed from the functional simplicity of the early Mobylette models, it boasted a more assertive character and a resolutely modern design; the name Campera evoked wide open spaces and adventure, whilst the SP95 signalled a sportier and more dynamic character than the utility models that had built the company’s reputation. A deliberate positioning, designed to appeal to the Spanish youth of the 1980s, who were no longer content with a mere means of transport.
Its 49cc two-stroke engine is a tried-and-tested unit, refined through decades of continuous production; it is reliable, economical and well-suited to intensive daily use. The overall design reflects the aesthetic codes of the late 1980s: more angular lines, bold colours and enhanced equipment compared to previous generations.
