The Ossita – literally ‘little OSSA’ – was the brand’s response to a demand for light, affordable urban transport in a Spain then experiencing the early years of its economic miracle. Whilst OSSA was making a name for itself on trial and speed tracks with increasingly sophisticated machines, the Ossita was aimed at a different, younger, more urban clientele, more concerned with practicality than performance. It was a gamble on versatility by a manufacturer that refused to be confined to a single category.

Its 50cc two-stroke engine was a lightweight and responsive unit, directly derived from OSSA’s expertise in small-displacement engines: reliable, economical and easy to maintain on a daily basis. The machine stood out for its sleek and compact design, characteristic of Barcelona-built models of that era, combining urban practicality with attention to detail.

1968 was a fine year for OSSA; the brand was at the height of its international reputation, buoyed by Mick Andrews’ successes in trial riding and its performance in speed events. The Ossita benefited from this prestige and the technical mastery of a manufacturer then at the peak of its powers.
