The Ciclo is Montesa’s offering for urban and suburban customers. More understated than the Mini that would succeed it a few years later, it fully embraces its utilitarian purpose: a no-frills machine, designed to transport its rider from one place to another reliably and economically. Its 49cc two-stroke engine is a simple and robust piece of machinery, built with the care that characterised all Barcelona-made production of that era, even the most modest models.

The name ‘Ciclo’, halfway between a bicycle and a moped, reflects an era when the boundaries between categories were still blurred, and when the presence of pedals remained a key selling point and regulatory requirement. An honest, unpretentious machine, yet bearing the subtle signature of a manufacturer that knew how to produce with integrity.

1965 was a year of limited production for this model; few examples have survived, as almost all were ridden until they were completely worn out in a Spain that did not yet keep its light vehicles. A Ciclo from this era in decent condition is today a real find for the curious collector.

Commercially, the Montesa Ciclo remained in production until 1972, available in three virtually identical versions. However, for the American market, it was fitted with a bright yellow fuel tank and renamed the Montesa Indiana. Its production was remarkably prolific, even though, over time, it was eclipsed by other, far more high-performance models.
