Ducson is a Barcelona-based brand founded by Vicente Solá in the 1950s. After manufacturing bicycles and a large number of spare parts for motorcycles, Ducson shifted its focus to creating its own motorised vehicles in 1958. Its first model fitted with a Ducson engine was the Repris, considered the best sports moped of its time.

The S.10 Especial belongs to the generation of machines launched in 1962, a pivotal year in which Ducson completely revamped its chassis, abandoning the pressed steel of the early series in favour of a cradle and fishbone frame of remarkable coherence and elegance. The name ‘Especial’ is no mere marketing ploy; it denotes an enhanced and refined version of the S range, featuring superior equipment and meticulous engineering that reflects the company’s obsession with performance in the small-displacement category. Its 49cc two-stroke engine, fitted with a Dell’Orto carburettor, was a machine whose reputation in competition was such that the Solá brothers would send bikes directly to rider César Gracia for the Valencia races without ever touching the carburetion, so perfect was it already.

For Ducson is, above all, a racing brand. Its machines shone on Spanish circuits with riders such as Pere Auradell, Ricard Fargas and Ramón Torras, the latter regularly beating larger-capacity machines before joining Bultaco. A 50cc Ducson engine was even used in the Sheene Special, entered in the Tourist Trophy by Bill Ivy. A sporting reputation that extends far beyond Spain’s borders.

A rare and stylish piece, for a collector who knows that behind the name Ducson lies one of the most fascinating stories in European sports mopeds.
