GAC is a company based in Eibar whose origins date back to the mid-19th century, at the heart of the Basque metalworking tradition. Having survived the destruction of the Civil War, it relaunched itself in bicycle manufacturing before signing a landmark agreement in 1951 with the French firm Motobécane to produce the famous Mobylette under licence for the Iberian market. A collaboration that would last over thirty years and make GAC one of the key players in the Spanish two-wheeler industry.
The AV63 was the first model to emerge from this agreement. A Spanish adaptation of the French AV3, it differed from the original in having a 63cc two-stroke engine with a larger displacement than the French model, a choice deliberately made to tackle the steeper gradients of Spanish roads. Its top speed was 45 km/h. By 1956, the machine had already undergone several significant developments since its launch, including the telescopic front fork introduced in 1953, the automatic clutch in the same year, and drum brakes introduced in 1954. This 1956 model is therefore a mature and fully developed version of this first generation, built with the craftsmanship of a Basque company that has been working with metal for generations.
Rare in this original configuration, at a time when most AV63s were used until they were completely worn out, this 1956 model is a precious testament to a collaboration of genius.
