The 1998 Honda Dream 50cc is one of the most sought-after and valuable items on the Japanese classic motorcycle market, and this example, with just 1.4 kilometres on the clock, is quite simply exceptional.

The Dream 50 is a living legend. Launched in 1962, it is a miniature replica of the famous RC162, the Honda Grand Prix bike that revolutionised global racing in the early 1960s. Its engineers had the audacity to faithfully reproduce, within a 50cc engine, the technical sophistication of factory racing machines: twin overhead camshafts, chain timing, a double cradle frame and telescopic forks – a mechanical feat absolutely unprecedented in this category, making the Dream 50 a unique artefact in the history of global motorcycling.

The 1998 version is a reissue; Honda has brought the Dream 50 back after years of absence to meet growing collector demand, whilst remaining faithful to the spirit and mechanics of the original. Produced in limited numbers, intended from the outset for collectors and enthusiasts of historic motorcycles rather than for everyday use, it is built with the care and precision that characterise Honda’s finest productions. Its 49cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine with twin overhead camshafts is a mechanical masterpiece of elegance and sophistication absolutely unrivalled in its class.

A model with just 1.4 kilometres on the clock is a machine that has barely been ridden, taken out of its box, likely started once or twice, and kept in absolutely mint condition for nearly thirty years. Such preservation is extremely rare on a machine of this nature, and gives this model a value that far exceeds that of a comparable used model.

An absolute collector’s item, in a condition that will never be seen again.
