In 1963, OSSA was a company undergoing a major transformation. Sporting successes were beginning to mount up, the brand’s reputation extended far beyond Spain’s borders, and the company’s engineers were increasingly turning their attention to competition machines and larger engine capacities. The Motopedal moped, created in OSSA’s early years to meet the daily mobility needs of a Spain in the midst of reconstruction, began to give way to more ambitious models.
The 50D version was the culmination of this line. Benefiting from all the developments accumulated since the 1956 A version, it featured a telescopic fork, refined mechanics, a well-engineered chassis and a cohesive design. The Motopedal in its most mature and accomplished form. Its 50cc two-stroke engine was now a well-known and well-mastered piece of machinery, whose reliability and robustness had been confirmed by years of intensive use on the streets and roads of Spain.
The pedals remain, a regulatory and practical legacy of an era that is nevertheless drawing to a close, as the first true pedal-less mopeds begin to establish themselves on the market. A detail that gives the 50D a distinctive character, that of a machine still rooted in a tradition that is about to disappear.
