Gimson was founded in Valencia in the 1950s by the Giménez family, the brand name being a direct contraction of the founder’s surname. In a Spain undergoing economic reconstruction, where personal mobility was both an urgent necessity and an unattainable luxury for many, Gimson gradually established itself as one of the most reputable regional manufacturers in the Spanish Levante region. The brand produced a range of mopeds and light motorcycles whose reputation for sturdiness and reliability quickly spread beyond the borders of the province of Valencia.

The 65cc engine was the standard displacement for Gimson’s production during these early years: a simple, robust two-stroke engine, well-suited to the Spanish roads of the time and to the needs of a clientele that demanded, above all, reliability and economy. In a market then dominated by the major Catalan and Basque brands, Gimson defended its position with the professionalism of a company that understood its customers and their needs.

1955 marked one of the brand’s first years of mature production, a period when Gimson had found its rhythm and its voice, without yet having faced the competitive pressures that would undermine small regional manufacturers in the following decade. Examples of this generation are now extremely rare; Valencian production from the 1950s has not received the same attention from collectors as its Catalan or Basque counterparts, and time has taken its toll.
