It all began in 1963, when entrepreneur Kim Kimball and actor Steve McQueen started importing Montesas into the United States. The small operation that began in Kimball’s garage eventually grew into a network of 350 dealers across the country. Dan Gurney and Phil Hill joined the venture. Viva Montesa was born.

The LaCross 250cc was introduced in 1967 and was aimed primarily at the American scrambles market. Built around the upgraded Diablo 250cc engine, it stood out for its long-travel Telasco forks, fibreglass fuel tank and fairing, Akront rims and imposing front hub with dual brake cams.

Total production amounted to just 1,333 units, manufactured between 1966 and 1967, before it was replaced by the Cappra in 1968. Sixty years have passed, and most examples have disappeared. Collectors almost never come across one for sale. This example, in perfect condition, features a colour combination that is extremely rare for this model.

A seminal and irreplaceable piece for a collector who knows exactly what they are looking for.
