In 1949, the Ossa brand began manufacturing motorcycles, with a first 125cc model that laid the foundations for a rigorous technical philosophy. The Motopedal was the most accessible version of this fledgling range, a pedal-assisted moped designed for an urban clientele seeking affordable mobility in early Francoist Spain. Made from pressed sheet metal, the 50cc model, commonly known as the “Ossita”, was the brand’s first moped; the idea was to achieve high sales figures in order to provide financial support for the brand, enabling it to embark on more ambitious projects.
The 50A version is a 50cc two-stroke engine, characterised by the simplicity and robustness typical of OSSA’s production at that time. The presence of pedals – an important technical and regulatory detail – meant the machine could be ridden without a licence under many of the legal frameworks of the era, considerably broadening its potential market. A pragmatic approach, typical of a company that knows its customers and their needs.
1956 was still an early year for OSSA in the moped sector. The brand had only been in the motorcycle business for seven years, and every machine of this generation bears the mark of an undiminished founding passion. Almost all examples from this era have disappeared, victims of intensive use in a Spain that did not yet preserve its vintage machines.
