The 1963 Iso Side-Car 150cc is a truly unique piece, and one of the most unusual and fascinating objects ever produced by the post-war Italian motorcycle industry.

Iso is a Milanese company founded in 1939 by Renzo Rivolta, a visionary engineer and entrepreneur whose name will forever be associated with some of the most desirable grand tourers of the 1960s. But before the Iso Rivolta GTs and the Grifos, before the Chevrolet engines and Bertone bodywork, Iso built its reputation on far more modest machines: industrial refrigerators, scooters, and the famous Isetta, that motorised bubble that carried millions of Europeans in the 1950s and for which BMW would buy the licence to turn it into one of the most famous microcars in history.

The 150cc model with sidecar is one of the most original offerings in the Iso range during those years of maximum diversification. Its robust, economical and well-built 150cc two-stroke engine powers a three-wheeler of remarkable coherence and practicality for the time. The sidecar, securely attached to the motorbike, transformed the machine into a genuine light family vehicle, capable of carrying an extra passenger or a significant payload on the Italian and Spanish roads of the time.

1963 marked the twilight of Iso’s motorcycle production; Renzo Rivolta’s company was in the process of definitively shifting its focus towards grand touring cars, and the final two-wheelers produced under this name bore the hallmarks of a production run nearing its end, built with the care of a manufacturer that never did things by halves.
