The Fiat Dino coupé was a genuine GT, made for high-speed four-up motoring in comfort and security.
Originated at Bertone by Giugiaro and re-worked by his successor Gandini, it was launched to an enthusiastic reception at the 1967 Geneva show. Powered by the same Ferrari engine as the 206 Dino, it had a five-speed gearbox, four-wheel disc brakes and a limited-slip differential, but in this first version it retained a leaf-sprung rear axle. Fiat chief Giovanni Agnelli was one of the many owners to appreciate this Fiat-Ferrari hybrid, with its all aluminium 2-litre engine derived from Ferrari’s V6 racing engine.
This particular car is one of the 384 of the 2-litre version that were registered in France. Finished in an elegant dark yellow with a fine interior in black leather, it has received a full restoration by its current owner, a former Fiat dealer. The car has only covered 4000km (2500 miles) since restoration, and the odometer now reads 20,000km (12,000 miles). A marvel of harmony and balance, the mechanicals are as good as the body, and dominated by that melodious V6, happily revving to 8000rpm and of which it is impossible to tire. The coachwork has been fully repainted and the panels are properly gapped and the finish excellent. The stylish 14in Cromodoro alloy wheels have been repainted in pale grey and there are new tyres.

Sold at the time for more than the spider, the Dino coupé is under-valued today and this example offers an enticing opportunity to take the wheel of an elegant machine with performance of the very first order.
