After the Second World War, it was time for reconstruction – for France, its army and its industry. It was against this backdrop that Latil and Hotchkiss joined forces to offer the Army a 4x4 vehicle.
The Latil Hotchkiss M18 T2, which was launched in 1955, was a light tactical truck, combining the Latil 4x4 chassis with a Hotchkiss 6-cylinder engine.
Only 125 were built and supplied to the Army, the Royal Navy, the Marine Corps (Overseas) and the Air Force. Once returned to civilian use, a few served as recovery vehicles or for fighting forest fires.
The example shown here, fitted with a mechanical winch at the rear, appears to have enjoyed a second life in forestry work. It shows little wear and tear, with just over 13,500 km on the odometer.
It starts at the drop of a hat and has been reclassified as a light vehicle (can be driven with a Category B licence). Despite some signs of corrosion and a fuel tank in need of attention (it runs via a transfer tank), it is in its original condition, with a recently refurbished cab body.
