One of the extremely rare R107s to roll off the production line in Cayenne Orange!

In 1971, the new Mercedes SLs of the R107 series replaced the famous ‘Pagoda’. More substantial and more luxurious than their predecessor, they also offered a wider choice of engines.

Originally, they were fitted with a 3.5-litre V8, which was later offered in 3.8-litre, 4.2-litre and 5-litre versions. From 1974 onwards, to meet the demands of a clientele concerned about oil prices, Mercedes offered the car with a modern 2.8-litre six-cylinder engine featuring two overhead camshafts, enabling it to produce 185 hp in its carburettor version.

Inside, the coupés and convertibles of the 107 series reflect the care that the brand with the star typically brings to its models, with advanced soundproofing, a highly legible dashboard, a comprehensive range of equipment and comfortable seats.

Our example, which rolled off the production line in September 1975, is one of the first thousand 280 SL R107s manufactured (out of a total of over 25,000 units); according to its factory specifications (copy attached to the file), it was produced in the extremely rare Cayenne Orange colour, with a black MB-Tex interior.

It arrived in France (more specifically in Corsica) in 2006 and was repainted grey at an unknown date. It has since been regularly serviced (brakes, front suspension, chassis), and although the underbody shows signs of corrosion, it is in good overall condition and is just waiting to be driven, having covered just over 3,000 km since 2010!
