The American Dream, in a lovely colour scheme
On 17 April 1964, Ford, the world’s second-largest car manufacturer, unveiled its Mustang in New York and reinvented the car with the first of the ‘pony cars’ – a sports coupé that stood in stark contrast to the large, heavy, bulky vehicles that had hitherto been typical of American production.
The Mustang was available as a hardtop coupé or a convertible, and then as a fastback from 1965 onwards. On its first day on sale, 22,000 units were sold: history was in the making!
The car we are presenting was manufactured in 1968. It is a Coupé (Hardtop) fitted with a Code C engine, a 289 cu in (4.7 l) V8 with twin carburettors.
It remains in its original specification, featuring a lovely light blue Diamond Blue paintwork, complemented by a blue vinyl interior.
In good working order and with a valid MOT, there are nevertheless a few bodywork imperfections, some corrosion spots, traces of welding around the boot, and rather loose steering (original power steering).
