A promotional copy of the single *Backwater* (cat. no. ENODJ 1), whose original white sleeve was transformed by Brian Eno into a spontaneous work of art.
Produced in 1986 in Grenoble, during the inauguration of the Centre national d’art contemporain (CNAC), this record was handed over in person to a journalist from Radio Campus Grenoble during a meeting and interview with the artist. On the front, Eno sketched a freehand drawing in felt-tip pen before signing it, transforming the sleeve into a space for intimate expression.
The reverse side retains the radio station’s press pass beneath a partial cover, attesting to a direct and documented provenance. The letters “RC”, still visible on the B-side label, discreetly recall this origin.
Brian Eno’s contribution to the record lends the item a rare dimension: that of a dialogue between music and artistic gesture, at the crossroads of sound memory and contemporary art.
