Spring 1919: “Citroën launches the first French mass-production car” boasted the advertisement! And for 7,500 Francs, a price defying all competition, the firm with the Chevrons offered the 10 HP Type A.
Success was forthcoming and 22,700 cars were built until December 1920, mainly 4-seat 3-door Torpedos, equipped as standard with a starter and electric lighting.
In June 1921, the Type A became B2, notably with a new engine displacing 1,452 cc against 1,327 cc previously, propelling the whole to 75 km/h.
It would be the last Citroën equipped with a mixed wood and steel structure. Both robust and reliable, it would contribute to the reputation of the Chevron marque, notably serving as the base for the tracked vehicles used during the Black Cruise. The B2 was manufactured in nearly 90,000 examples distributed across some 25 types of bodywork.
Our example is an elegant factory 4-seat Torpedo (the Citroën plate is still present!), sound, and apparently complete. It will be necessary to carry out the usual checks and work before getting it back on the road. Cosmetically, it should be left in its original state!
