Citroën Traction 11 Commerciale – 1939

French historic registration title

Since the release of the first Citroën in 1919, the chevron firm has made it a point of honor to offer versatile commercial versions in the catalog, intended for craftsmen and small business owners who do not have the possibility of having two vehicles. The same car must be able to do everything.
The innovative Traction, launched in 1934, was no exception to the rule and the 11 Commerciale was presented at the 1937 Paris Motor Show. It had a less utilitarian appearance than the Rosalie it replaced. And for good reason, even though its interior was largely stripped down, it was nothing more or less than a Traction Familiale - a model presented as early as July 1934 - equipped with a double tailgate.
Extremely versatile, this Commerciale was a sort of MPV before its time, offering modularity never seen before, notably with an adjustable wooden floor at two heights, folding seats, and rear doors opening 180 degrees. There was even a hatch in the middle of the floor to allow any liquids to drain out.
The war did not lead to the complete halt of 11 Commerciale production, but while 1,189 and 1,478 units were respectively produced in 1938 and 1939, quantities dropped to 542 in 1940 then 350 in 1941. The production line stopped in October 1941 only to resume in... 1953.
The car we present is one of the 7 recorded survivors from pre-war production. It is therefore a true rarity, which presents itself in good used condition after a quality restoration from years past.
It is equipped with Pilote wheels, a period roof rack, and its extremely rare original wooden floor. It has only known 5 owners since new! Will you be the 6th?
