Morris Mini Cooper S « 1275 » – 1966
French historic registration title in progress
In 1959, the British Motor Company presented a revolutionary car that would remain their greatest success: the Mini! It was a commercial success, as well as a sporting one, with three victories in the Monte Carlo Rally! In 1961, under the impetus of engineer John Cooper, BMC presented two sportier versions: the Cooper and the Cooper S.
In March 1964, John Cooper and BMC announced a new version of the already efficient Cooper S, this time with a block rebored to 1275 cm3 and developing almost 76 bhp. The car we are presenting here is part of this highly desirable and sought-after production run.
Our car is a rare Cooper S MK1 1275, which has long been kept in one of Belgium's finest collections. It was this collector who decided a few years ago to give it a complete restoration: bodywork stripped bare, chromes redone, upholstery changed, engine completely overhauled, cylinder head ground, large valves fitted, and water pump, fuel pump and clutch changed!
Today, the car is part of a major Paris collection, and has been perfectly preserved. The Surf Blue bodywork with its Old English White roof is in perfect condition, as is the upholstery!
During our test drive, we were struck by how well this car runs: the engine runs perfectly smoothly, the gearbox is fluid, the brakes are efficient...
For enthusiasts, this is a must-have that will occupy a place – a reasonable place – in any collection worthy of the name!
