MG A 1600 Roadster – 1961

French registration title

After the war, MG was taken over by BMC, which also owned the Austin and Austin-Healey brands. Priority for new models was given to the other manufacturers, and it was not until 1954 that the management accepted the project for the TF's replacement... The most striking feature was undoubtedly the car's design, which had its roots in the UMG 400 project from the 1951 and 1952 Le Mans 24 Hours!
Our example is from the last production year of the Mk 1, with the 80 hp 1.6l 4-cylinder engine and front disc brakes. We found traces of this car in the 2010s with a gentleman driver in the Bordeaux region, who gave it a full restoration (photos attached in the file).
The car then passed into the hands of an enthusiast in the Amiens region who gave this beautiful Roadster a few updates:
new carburettors, restoration of the gearbox, etc. The current owner also carried out some work between 2024 and this year, with the replacement of the brake cylinder master, the clutch master, the radiator, the thermostat, the tyres, etc.
Today, the car is in good working order, the gearbox is smooth and the revs are crisp. The bodywork is also in good condition, with just the right amount of patina. The side-screens are present, and the only fault to be noted is a tear in the soft top, which can be repaired without great expense!
This is one of the most elegant British Roadsters of the 1950s, with the added bonus of an extensive list of work carried out in recent years. The perfect car for this summer.
