Iso-Rivolta Lele – 1973

Former belgian registration title, presumably cancelled

April 1969, New York Motor Show, the incomparable Italian manufacturer Iso Rivolta presented its new GT, which was meant to rival models like the Jaguar E-Type or the Maserati Indy. The Lele (nickname of the brand founder’s daughter), a 2+2, filled the gap between the Grifo and the Fidia while sharing its platform and powertrain with its cousins. The styling was penned by Marcello Gandini at Bertone.
In 1972, after about 125 cars had been produced, General Motors demanded that Iso pay in advance for the engines. Iso chose to replace the Chevrolet engine with Ford’s Cleveland V8. Leather interior, air conditioning and electric windows, retractable headlights with pop-up covers, power steering and brakes: in addition to its unique look, the Lele had everything going for it.
But despite its impressive performance and this equipment, it did not achieve the expected success and only 285 Leles were built between 1970 and 1974.
The car illustrated on these pages is one of the examples equipped with the 5.8-liter Ford V8, here coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Its trace can be found in Belgium, where it was presumably sold new in the mid-1970s, before arriving in France at an unknown date.
Even though it presents well from a distance, and its engine is running, this is a restoration project that will notably require bodywork on the underpinnings, which are heavily corroded. But the car appears complete. It’s up to you if you want to save this incredible and devilish unknown thoroughbred...
