In the late 1950s, gentlemen drivers were no longer satisfied with the performance of the Giulietta Sprint. Alfa Romeo responded with the Sprint Speciale, a boldly styled and aerodynamically sculpted coupé, designed by Franco Scaglione for Bertone. Its exceptionally low drag coefficient (Cd) worked wonders, allowing the car — equipped with the Giulietta Sprint Veloce engine — to reach speeds close to 200 km/h, a remarkable feat for a 1.3-liter engine at the time.
In 1963, the model was updated with the 1600 cc engine from the Giulia, offering more torque, smoother acceleration, and enhanced driving comfort, while retaining its sporty character. Production remained extremely limited, with only 1,366 examples built, making this Alfa a truly exclusive collector’s item today.
