Mercedes-Benz 500 SL (R129) – 1996
French registration title
The 1989 Geneva Motor Show was marked by the presentation of the all-new version of the SL, christened the R129. This generation marked a real technological leap forward compared with the R107, with the introduction of advanced safety systems such as ESP and a retractable hardtop.
Our example is part of the second phase of R129s, recognisable by the new, more rounded radiator grille. It was delivered new in July 1996 by Mercedes-Benz Longchamp and will remain with its first owner until 2022! Its history is crystal clear, and documented in the extensive file of invoices, as well as in the maintenance booklet (stamped from the outset), which is available on request.
Initially registered 908 ATD 92, the car moved with its owner in 1999 to Lago di Come, which they did not leave until 2003 for a return to France. The car has been perfectly maintained over the years, and has changed hands twice between 2022 and the present day, always in the hands of two connoisseurs who have continued to maintain it by Mercedes-Benz.
The current owner gave the car a major overhaul in 2024 at a cost of more than €3,800, as well as a coat of paint and a general refresh of the bodywork. Today, this 500 SL is in very good condition, both cosmetically and mechanically, and has just over 135,500 km on the clock.
The R129-generation 500 SL is a future collector's item that already occupies a place in some of the world's greatest collections. With its incredible follow-up and attractive valuation, this car is an excellent buy for any enthusiast!
