BMW Z8 – 2001

French registration, title

The BMW Z8 is one of the most original and collectible sports cars of the past 20 years. After making a sensational debut at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show and gaining fame as the James Bond car in the 1999 blockbuster The World Is Not Enough, the spiritual heir to the legendary BMW 507 went on to reach a total global production of 5,703 units between 1999 and 2003.
Exclusive and exceptionally well-engineered, the Z8 featured a lightweight aluminum spaceframe and body panels. This cutting-edge architecture was paired with a 400 hp V8 engine derived from the M5, allowing the Z8 to outperform the Ferrari 360 Modena in contemporary acceleration tests. The exterior styling, a minimalist Bauhaus-inspired masterpiece, was the work of Henrik Fisker, who would later design the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage.
From the outset, demand far exceeded BMW’s planned supply, and only the most important clients were granted an allocation. The example offered here was sold and delivered in Germany at BMW’s headquarters before being registered in Monaco. According to our information, the car was owned by Prince Albert of Monaco until 2008, when its second and current owner acquired it from Paris Monceau SA in Neuilly-sur-Seine on April 29, 2008. At the time, it had covered 27,950 km, and has since been driven less than 9,000 km over the past 17 years.
Now presented in exceptional condition, we can confidently say that this is very likely the finest example we have ever had the pleasure of offering. Its Stratus Metallic paintwork is the rarest of all, and the light beige leather interior appears virtually new. The driving experience is truly sublime: precise handling, perfectly tuned suspension, reassuring brakes, and a sensational engine and gearbox that showcase BMW at its absolute best.
Sold with its rare original hardtop, tonneau cover, wind deflector, complete tool kit, three sets of keys in addition to accessory keys, a large file of invoices dating back to its 2008 acquisition, a duplicate service book, and owner’s manuals, this BMW Z8 has aged without a wrinkle and now stands among the most desirable youngtimers on the market. In this rare and elegant configuration, it offers a unique opportunity to acquire a future classic, perfect for both pleasure and investment.
