Saint John the Baptist
The saint stands with a bearded head
looking down on his right. His right arm
in front of his chest, pointing to the right.
His left arm and shoulder are bare.
and his left hand holds a book.
The coat, worn over a skin cloak
returns to his left leg above the knee
the knee, leaving the lower part of both legs
of both legs, and falls to the ground at the back.
It rests on a square base.
Italy, 17th or 18th century.

PROVENANCE
- Nicolas de Hurtado Collection (1854 - 1920)
- Probably stolen on December 21, 1937
returned to the family on the 23rd to the widow
of the previous owner née Amparo, baronne Beyens
(1859 - 1946)
- Remained in the family to this day.
A very similar copy is preserved
at the Fi tzwi l l iam Museum, Cambridge
(MAR.M.201-1912]. It is given as 17th or 18th
century.
