OF MAASTRICHT (C. 1250-1350)
Flat, round die in copper alloy,
with a slight ridge on the back, fitted
suspension ring.
In a four-lobed redentate design with fenestrated
the spandrels are windowed, a shield charged
a shield charged with six roses.
Engraved legend in Lombardy between two
between two grenetis: "+ S . GOSVINI . DE . MAYO
SCAB(in)I TRAIECT(e)N(sis)" (Translation
proposed: Seal of Gossuin de May
(van Mei, Van den Meye, de Mey), alderman
of Maastrich).
Netherlands, province of Limburg,
late 13th or early 14th century.
Diameter: 32 mm - Height: 10 mm - Weight: 16.65 g.

We find this character cited as a witness
witness in an act of the chapter of Saint-Servais
of Maastricht dated December 19, 1306. He
seems to have been an alderman of Heer-et-Keer, a town
which was part of the bans of Saint-Servais
of Maastricht. This aldermanic family owned
a house in the Groote Staat
in Maastricht, which became an aldermanic seat in the 14th
century.
