SEAL OF ROLAND DE ROULERS
(ROESELARE)
The circle-shaped copper-alloy matrix
a circle, with a conical cut-side socket
by a three-lobed Gothic ram. The field
engraved with a central shield of three roses,
with a three-pendant label. Legend: S' .
ROELANDE (rinceaux) DE (rinceaux) ROLARE
in Roman capital letters engraved between
grenetis fillets.
Flanders or Northern France, late 14th century
or early 15th century.
Diameter: 2 cm - Height: 2.4 cm - Weight: 14.6 g.

This die belonged to an unidentified member
member of the Roulers family,
family originating from the town in present-day Belgium
whose Flemish equivalent
Roeselare provides a clearer understanding of the link
with the roses in the coat of arms. The arms
(Argent, three cinquefoils Sable) appear in the
sable) appear in the Gelre Armorial (1370-1395)|
They are also found on the seal of Gilles de Roulers,
bailiff of Lille in 1291.
