ETRUSCAN PLAQUE
Rectangular belt buckle in silver leaf
on bronze core. In the center, Artemis
Potnia Theron, mistress of the animals, dressed
dress, head turned to her right, arms outstretched
head to her right, arms outstretched at her sides
flanked on either side by leaping dogs and
and dioscouri, wearing a short, belted chiton
wearing a short girdled chiton, with one leg outstretched
archaic smile and her hair tucked behind her ears
behind her ears and falling down her back,
framed by a frieze of ovals.
Southern Etruria, late 7th century
B.C.
