(table, 2 bl.), midnight-blue half-maroquin à la Bradel, smooth spine, 4 mosaic faux-nerfs and a verge in the central f leuron, author, title and small circles gilded, a wide vertical band of mosaic sand morocco on each board, gilded head, untrimmed, cover preserved, slipcase (mosaic parts missing from spine, corners rubbed, slipcase worn at edges| qq. small spots and soiling not serious).
First edition of this collection, published clandestinely by the Parisian publisher Messein. It includes the famous Sonnet du trou du cul by Rimbaud and Verlaine.
Limited edition of 525 copies: one of 500 on Hollande Van Gelder (no. 322, the only paper after 25 japon).
Pp. 44, 45 and 48 are erroneously numbered 46, 47 and 44 respectively, and corrected by hand.
A superb, one-of-a-kind copy, with 14 original unsigned free drawings, including 9 in color, in pencil, ink and watercolor or gouache. They are scattered throughout the volume, in the margins| one of them covers a full page.
The face of one of the characters (page 22) bears a strong resemblance to Verlaine.
