Hachette, 1867, 1872 and 1877. Three parts in 2 large folio volumes, fawn morocco, 5-ribbed spine, gilded author and title, richly decorated with a geometrical composition of interlaced mosaic scrolls edged with gilded fillets, and framed with a green and a black scroll edged with gilded fillets, black basane lining edged with fawn morocco decorated with gilded roulettes, with a large gilded Renaissance-type finial in the center.
Renaissance-style gilt in the center, a border of gilt fountains and two red mosaic listels, purple moiré satin endpapers, gilt edges [Magnier] (some rubbing, small mosaic gaps on the spines| very rare foxing).
Famous and important edition illustrated with captioned horstexte woodcuts after compositions by Gustave Doré.
Gustave Doré: a portrait of Dante and 75 plates for Hell, and 60 plates for Purgatory and Paradise, for a total of 136 plates.
Continuous pagination for Purgatory and Paradise, the latter preceded by a special title page.
