Edition illustrated with numerous original color compositions by Robert Beltz, wood-engraved by Théo Schmied: a frontispiece, 21 large vignettes (one at the head of each chapter) and numerous culs-de-lampe and lettrines. This is the first book illustrated by Alsatian Robert Beltz (1900-1981).
Limited edition of 220 copies on Lana vellum (and a few collaborators' copies). This one, no. 9, is one of 5 containing a color suite and the print breakdown (24 plates) of an etching.)
It is enriched by an original signed drawing by R. Beltz, dated 1945, in pencil and ink, on a loose leaf that features another original, unsigned drawing in pencil on the reverse.
