LAFAYETTE Marie-Joseph de (1757-1834).
L.A.S. "Lafayette," aboard the Brandywine September 7, 1825, to "President Liberator" [Simon BOLIVAR]| half-page in-4.
Beautiful letter from Lafayette to Liberator Simon Bolivar.
"Before leaving the American shore, towards which my eyes will be constantly turned, while my heart associates itself with your patriotic and republican undertakings, allow me to present to you a young Frenchman, lover of liberty, and full of veneration for you. I am honored to have my letters considered as a passport to the Liberator. My information on Mr. Martin's character leads me to believe that he will make himself worthy of your care"... [This same September 7, 1825 marked the end of La Fayette's triumphal tour of America, which began in the summer of 1824. On this day, he received the official farewell of the American president and his ministers].
