Set of approximately 70 letters and cards, Australia 1879, received by Captain Frédéric-Jean Dorlodot des ESSARTS (1832-1899).
Captain in 1873, des Essarts was given command of the cruiser Beautemps-Beaupré in the New Caledonia naval division in 1879. He was promoted to vice-admiral in 1893.
During his 1879 mission, he was stationed in Sydney, where he was warmly received, as evidenced by these letters and invitation cards, notably by naval officers (Bridges, Commodore Wilson...), the New South Wales Rifle Association, the Australian Club, French residents of Sydney, the Commissioner General of France, A. Mathieu, etc., plus a few other guests. Mathieu, etc.| plus a few drafts by des Essarts, and invoices.
