Interesting letter on physics and psychology.
The letter is addressed to the future psychiatrist Eberhard ZWIRNER (1899-1984). Einstein criticizes the work of psychologist Wolfgang
KÖHLER (1887-1967), one of the founders of Gestaltpsychology.
"Köhler übernimmt den Gestaltbegriff wie er ihn in der Physik sieht u. sucht Analogien auf dem psychologischen Gebiet. Der
Physik nützt diese Analogie natürlich nichts. Sie kämpft schwer mit ähnlichen Problemen (Quantentheorie), muss aber wie gesagt, ganz mit ihren eigenen Methoden weiter zu kommen suchen"...
Translation: Köhler adopts the concept of Gestalt as he sees it in physics, and looks for analogies in the psychological field.
Of course, this analogy is of no use to physics. He is grappling with similar problems (quantum theory), but as I said, he has to try to make progress using his own methods.
