Concerning a botanical plate of the plant Brucea (named after the Scottish explorer James Bruce) published by John John
Frederick MILLER, which he considers to have been stolen from him| he had employed him as a draughtsman and dismissed him for insufficiency| he had him make drawings from life, and this one, like almost everything else he has published, was stolen from him: "He was employed by me as a draughtsman for some time and discharged for insufficiency [...] almost all that he has published are like this stollen from me".
The work contains 6 plates, each costing one guinea and containing 10 plants and a few quadrupeds. He didn't think that this publication would discourage his correspondent from publishing his own Brucea, especially as Miller had almost exhausted everything he had been able to steal from him: "he has nearly exhausted the amount of what he can have stollen from me, and the plan was intended for 10 numbers"....
