SADE Donatien-Alphonse-François, marquis de (1740-1814).
L.A.S. "de Sade", [donjon de Vincennes] December 12, 1781, to his mother-in-law Madame de MONTREUIL| 1 page in-4.
He asks her to pay a money order, so as not to bother his wife, who "can be embarrassed if she has no money. [...] Your tenderness for her makes me hope that this time you will be kind enough to spare her this little care [...] I appeal to this same tenderness to urge you madame not to let her lack anything and especially not to spare her anything". He begs her to "provide her with everything, even beyond her needs and desires".
He will sign any acknowledgement. "I am ready to sacrifice everything, not for her life - none of that could pay her - but for the alleviation of her least pain, or the satisfaction of her lightest desire"...
The letter was copied by Sade for his wife, as the postscript indicates: "Voila ce que j'ecrivois a ta mere"...
