A very lively portrait of Mérimée two years before his death, with his keen eyes and tight mouth, both hermetic and curious, at the end of his rich career.
It was through his father, Charles-Henri BACH (1811-1870), natural son of
Jérôme Bonaparte, that Ferdinand Bach was introduced to the court of the Second Empire, and became acquainted with its leading personalities.
