The article did not reach me, and I deeply regret it, but I hope you will allow me to take this opportunity to tell you how much my sympathy is with you.
You are not only for me a man of rare spirit and charming talent, you have at one time represented all writers, you have personified poetry fighting against brute force| and I cannot, Sir, express to you all that was in my soul during the cruel ordeal from which you emerged with such courage and honor. Since then, my gaze has remained fixed on you with deep interest. I know there is more than one difference of opinion between us, but I feel closely united to you by literary solidarity. I honor in you the bravery of the man supporting the talent of the writer"...
