[John Cam Hobhouse (1786-1869) was a friend and executor of Byron's will. The statue of Byron, erected by Thorvaldsen and financed by subscription, was eventually exhibited at Trinity
College, Cambridge, after having been rejected by several institutions due to the character's dubious morals].
Goethe asked to contribute 20 pounds in his name to the subscription for the monument in honor of Lord Byron, as he had previously pledged...
"Mein Herr / Bey der Subscription für Lord Byrons Denckmal bitte mich mit Zwanzig Pfund zu unterzeichnen, wozu ich mich schon vormals verpflichtet"...
