About the Algerian nationalist Messali Hadj.
October 25, 1956. Breton asks P. de Massot to write about his meeting with Messali Hadj in the second issue of the magazine Le Surréalisme même, and "to write about his meeting with the Algerian nationalist Messali Hadj.
Messali Hadj, and to "paint a less conventional portrait of him than the one we are usually offered". This was very important to him, "and to
Péret too". - November 26th. He returns to this project, which has been postponed: "my friends and I attach great importance to it"... - March 13, 1957.
He returns a photograph that it was impossible to reproduce in the magazine, as "two other images of Messali were already in the clichage". The Feydeau is to close for modernization work, and Breton still doesn't know where they'll meet on Saturday... - April 21st.
Missed appointment: "I didn't look at my notebook for several days. The best part is that when I went into the Vaudeville last night, I told Péret that you were coming at half past six, and that because of the vacations, the three of us would probably be alone.
So my memory was perfectly mystified"...
