Concerning the engagement of soprano Clara NOVELLO (1818- 1908, daughter of English music publisher Vincent Novello) for the Lower Rhine Music Festival (Niederrheinisches Musikfest) in Düsseldorf.
He has just received a reply from Miss Novello, and a really good one. She raised her fee a little to £100, which the committee probably didn't agree with. Above all, it seems necessary to find an oratorio by HAENDEL (perhaps
Josua) in which the soprano part is more prominent than in Samson....
"Eben erhalte ich Antwort von Miß Novello, und zwar gute. Das
Honorar hat sie auf einß Weniges erhöht, auf 100 £, worauf es das
Comité wohl nicht ansicht. Es scheint mir vor Allem nöthig, ein
Händelschen Oratorium (vielleicht Josua) ausfindig zu machen, in dem die Sopranparthie bedeutender ist als im Samson "....
