Most of the letters are written from Paris, when Massenet finds himself alone, caught up in his work. He frequently complains of the heat, and looks forward to returning to his Château d'Égreville, giving instructions for the upkeep of the garden....
He indicates the receipts for Thérèse at the Opéra-Comique, where Manon and Werther are also performed, as well as Thaïs at the Opéra ... He plays Roma for the Opéra directors (June 2): "Les directeurs ravis| Messager ne quittant plus le piano (après moi) pour tout le jouer"... He finishes Panurge... Ovation at the Écoles normales concert... He is to accompany "my artists"
Muratore and Dufranne... "Thérèse continues wonderfully. We play until the artists leave Paris - but there's also
