MASSENET Jules (1842-1912).
11 L.A.S. "J. Massenet" (2 "J.M." and one unsigned), August-October 1902, to his daughter Juliette and son-in-law
Léon BESSAND| 37 pages, most in-8, envelopes.
Family correspondence.
Most letters are written from Égreville| the last two from Lyon.
Affectionate thoughts from the parents to their beloved Juliette, as the Bessands spend the summer in Le Thillot (Vosges). News of his "dear wife", whose hand is "in a sad state". "The weather here is very pleasant, neither too hot nor too humid. Walks in the big woods give us happiness| calm &| sacred happiness!" Work downstairs... Enchanted by the flowers in the garden.
Brief stay in Paris to "rehearse Des Grieux with Alvarez, who will be playing Manon at the Op. Comique soon".
"My winter will be tiring| I didn't know when I accepted so many theatrical invitations that I would be in little condition to travel"...
Short stay in Lyon for Sapho: "the interpretation is excellent - the movements just right - it's perfect"...
